This policy covers the installation and use of third party software on employee computers. Any software that is installed or used on Human Made devices must follow this policy.
We want to give everyone the freedom to be productive, so we avoid limiting the software you can use as much as possible. These rules are in place only to ensure your security and the security of data and clients you work with.
When you install apps on your device, make sure you’re only installing trusted and highly-rated apps, ideally from official app stores. Apps can often access anything on your computer and present a risk. You can ask the CTO (Joe Hoyle) or ask in #company-tech-support in Slack.
This applies to browser extensions too, which can see what you’re doing across sites, including our internal communication tools or customers’ websites.
“Utility programs” that override system security measures such as Apple System Integrity Protection (SIP) should not be used. Any new systems (such as Windows computers) that come with additional third party “ad-ware” utility programs must be removed.
