Human Made’s AI Principles

Human Made uses AI deliberately to improve the quality, ambition and value of our work, with clear human accountability and trustworthy practices throughout the company and client lifecycle.

Be ambitious: AI is a normal part of how we work. We start by looking for how it can help, while exercising judgment about where it adds value. We use AI to raise the quality and value of our work and do things we could not do before. We challenge old constraints and rethink how work is done, as well as improving individual tasks.

Craft: AI can accelerate our work, but we do not let it lower our standards. We understand and can explain the work we put in front of others, challenge it appropriately, and make its readiness and limitations clear. We respect the effort required to read, review and use it.

Humans own the loop: We delegate work to AI to expand what people can achieve. People remain actively involved through judgment, direction and care, with the understanding and authority to challenge, change or stop the work. We set the purpose, boundaries and oversight appropriate to the consequences, and remain accountable for the outcome.

Human connection: We use AI to extend our capabilities while staying present in our relationships. Communication under our names represents our intent and judgment; an agent’s participation is clear. We do not use AI to impersonate people or claim expertise we do not have. We give and receive honest, constructive feedback.

Grow our people: We develop our ability to work with AI through everyday work, experimentation and learning together. We provide the tools, access and practical support people need. We keep developing the expertise and judgment needed to direct, challenge and evaluate the work we delegate. Leaders work openly alongside their teams; we share useful examples, failures and discoveries, and celebrate progress.

Openness: We use AI in ways that leave our culture, clients, systems and the open web stronger. We consider environmental and social impacts when choosing and using AI, respect creators’ work, and challenge bias in its outputs. We share what we learn and keep the knowledge others rely on trustworthy. The more autonomy we grant, the more deliberate we are about permissions, limits, transparency and oversight.
