The CEO is accountable for the strategic direction and smooth operational running of the company. You set the strategic direction and the vision for what success looks like. You play a key role in guiding other people towards that vision of success. As CEO you are accountable for six key areas in the company:
Setting Strategy and Direction
You are accountable for leading the executive team to set the strategic direction of the company by setting clear and focused long-term goals for market penetration, product offering, customer experience, reputational position, and more. This includes making decisions about how we best direct resources and make and take investments.You should continuously reinforce the strategy through communication at a company-wide, group, and individual level.
Building and leading an effective executive team
You are responsible for the recruitment, engagement and alignment of the executive team, and for holding them accountable for behaviour and performance. You will support the team to solve problems and keep the team moving in the direction set by the strategy. You are accountable for ensuring that members of the executive team are in turn creating alignment and role-modelling our behaviours and values with their teams.
Upholding our values and role-modelling all of our behaviours
As the most senior person in the company, you are responsible for building the company culture in a way that is in alignment with our company values and behaviours. You will be a role model for everyone in the company, but particularly for those in leadership roles. You are responsible for holding the executive team and other leaders accountable for their behaviour and performance to ensure they contribute to and enhance Human Made’s culture.
Allocating resources across the company
You are accountable for ensuring that the company is effectively directing resources in a way that will help Human Made meet its strategic goals. This means making final decisions about how budgets should be allocated so that different groups within the company are empowered to work towards our strategic goals.
Identifying and mitigating risk
As the person ultimately accountable for the company’s success, you should be aware of gaps in the company, areas of risk and failure, and emergent needs. You should work through others in the company to mitigate those risks, ensuring the company is set up for success.
Representing the company externally
You are accountable for the external reputation of the company and should actively represent the company within its market, peer group, and wider communities. Including participating in marketing, meeting with partners and peers, and building client relationships. In all of your external representations of the company, you should carry our values and culture.
